New Work, Exhibitions and a New Class

I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday season. My Christmas was busy and a bit chaotic, but I was surrounded by family, so it was all worth it! I'm still building up strength from my knee replacement, but I'm starting to feel like my old self again. I've also been busy in my studio.

I recently completed a couple of very different collage pieces. They were influenced by the Gel Printers' Summit lesson taught by Scottish mixed media artist, Susan McCreevy. The rounded forms were created with air dry clay and covered with gel printed tissue paper. They are slightly dimensional, but less than 1/4" in depth. They were fun to make and introduced me to a new path of creativity. The piece on the left is titled, Cairn Stones, and the piece on the right is, Gem Stones. Both were embellished with beads and hand made tiles. They are mounted on 6"x12" cradle boards. I'm pleased to say that Gem Stones has already sold!

My first mixed media collage of 2026 was another contrived landscape piece. I started the piece at the end of 2025, and almost gave up on it at least once. I persevered, made some changes to the composition and I’m happy with the finished piece. I’ve titled it, Scenic Overlook. It’s mounted on an 14”x11” cradle board. Most of the image was created with layers of gel printed tissue paper. Some details were enhanced with acrylic paint.

I also completed 2 small collage pieces. Both are 6” square and matted and framed to 12”x12”. These pieces came together fairly quickly. I began by going through my large stash of collage fodder, selecting papers for color, texture, and imagery.

The piece on the left is titled, Garden Interlude, and the one on the left is, Nature's Design.

I’m pleased to announce that I am one of the featured artists at Green Door Art Gallery’s current exhibit, Affairs of the Parts, which runs from January 21 - March 14, 2026. The opening reception is Friday, February 13., 2026, from 5-8 PM. If you live in the area, I hope you will be able to join me at this event.

I will also have 3 pieces in the Spanning the Generations Art Show at the Crossroads Arts Council in Wentzville, MO.

The exhibit runs from February 1-22, 2026. Unfortunately, I will be unable to attend the opening reception and awards ceremony for this exhibit as I will be out of town.

And finally, I will be teaching a new class at Green Door Art Gallery called Abstract Landscape Collage. The 3-hour class will cover defining and discussing the elements of a landscape, incorporating design elements and principles in collage composition, and discussing the materials and techniques for creating collage. For additional information about the class and how to register, visit the exhibitions and events page of this website. Scroll down to the events section of the page.
