I'm On a Roll!

Updated: Oct 21

Lots of activities since the end of August; from travel, to classes, to creating artwork, and exhibiting. I'm keeping busy!

The Queeny Art Fair over Labor Day weekend went well. I had lots for visitors to my booth and my sales were good. A few day later, my husband and I left for a trip to Berlin, Prague and Vienna. It was a wonderful trip, with Prague being the highlight!

Right before leaving for our trip, I dropped off 3 of my collages, Autumnal, At Dusk, and Moonrise, that were accepted in the, An Artfall Experience exhibit at Artisans in the Loop in the Delmar Loop. That show will be wrapping up on November 2.

In mid-September I signed up for Drew Steinbrecher's free, online, Gel Printers Summit Kickoff course. This is the precursor to his Gel Printers Summit 2024 course that began earlier this month. These courses are a great way to learn new techniques and meet so many different arts who share their talent and treasures. So far I've created some beautiful papers using a variety of techniques, tools and materials. If you've never done gel printing, it's a printmaking method in which a rectangular, jello-like plate is coated with paint, ink, pastels, or other media to create amazing monoprints. Here are some of my papers.

Although the general process of rolling paint onto the plate, creating texture or patterns, and printing on paper, is the same, each of these papers were created with different techniques and/or tools. These will be beautiful in some new collages!

I'm still in the process of completing the lessons in the Gel Printers Summit 2024. So far, my favorite lesson has been Leanne Daquino's lesson on printing on tissue paper. Leanne creates beautiful, abstract flower collages from her gel printed tissue paper. I've already create 2 small pieces of my own using her methods. The background for both pieces is a wallpaper scrap. On the left is, Royal Beauty, which was made into one of my original collage notecards, and on the right is, What Remains is Yellow. This 6" square piece is mounted on a 10" square matboard that I'm selling it unframed.

I also have some upcoming exhibits to announce. Two of my collages have been accepted in the virtual exhibit, What Lies Beneath, which is sponsored by the Collage Artists of America! My pieces, Beneath the Surface (on the left), and The Edge of Darkness (on the right), will be part of the exhibit at the that runs from November 1 - December 31, 2024. You’ll be able to view the exhibit through the San Fernando Valley Arts and Cultural Center website at https://sfvacc.org/.

Additionally, my collage, The Sum of Its Parts, has been accepted In the National Collage Society’s 40th Annual Juried Exhibit. This exhibition takes place at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland from November 8 – December 15, 2024.

I am also happy to announce that, as this is the third time that I’ve had a piece accepted in the Annual Juried Exhibit, I have now qualified to be a Signature Member in the National Collage Society!

Finally, just in time for the holidays, I will be teaching a new class, Collage Collectibles, on Saturday, December 7, 2024 from 10am-1pm, at Green Door Art Gallery in Webster Groves, MO, In the class we'll be creating collage ornaments on pre-cut wooden bases and/or collage magnets on small pieces of binders board. These make great stocking stuffers or holiday gifts.

If you'd like to take the class, you can contact me and let me know that you'd like to register for Collage Collectibles.
