Getting Creative!

I managed to get back into the studio in April and, with some guidance from the teaching videos of collage artists, Crystal Neubauer and Laura Lein-Svencner, I created collage papers, and a series of small collage pieces, each completed in 5 minutes or less. These were great learning experiences and, in some cases, pushed me out of my comfort zone.

The end result is this 10" square mixed-media collage on cradle board, Far and Wide.

In completing the 5 minute collages from Crystal Neubauer's videos, one of the prompts was to work only with neutral toned paper. Those were my favorite pieces and I went on to incorporate one of those small pieces into this larger collage. I also used some of the painted and stamped paper that I created from Laura Lein-Svencner's video class.

I struggled a bit with the composition of the piece, but I'm very pleased with the end result.

I also completed a postcard size collage (6" x 4") for the National Collage Society's Small Format Exhibition, which will be a virtual exhibition available for viewing from May 14 - September 30, 2021. Link for that later.

Finally, I've also been making more of my tiny collage magnets. These are fun to make and a great way to use up some of those tiny scraps. I've already sold a few at the gallery!
